I have a Sony w890i phone that I will be using for synching, which
unfortunately, there is not an existing template for.
Following <http://syncevolution.org/development/sync-phone> seems
straightforward, except for the rather innocent looking...
Be aware that when invoked like this, the tool needs to wipe out the
contacts, events, tasks and memos on the phone.
(p.s. this should be made much more prevalent on the wiki i.e. bold
and red font and above the command (so that people don't run the
command first only to notice it after it's too late!))
... warning. This seems very counter-intuitive: I need to *delete* all
my contacts, events, tasks etc. before I can synch my phone?! Is there
absolutely no way of avoiding this?
Meanwhile, I will try to configure my phone manually (and referring to
another Sony template in the wiki).

I agree, and I had already thought about making this more visible. But I
didn't know how to change the markup of this paragraph.
Mike, do you know how I can turn a <p> into a warning? Is there
something like <p class="warning">?

You can try without --advance. But then there is no guarantee that the
resulting config really is correct, because that depends on sending and
receiving test data.
But note that even then a backup of your data on the phone is a good
idea. We've had one report here where a Nokia phone apparently wiped out
all its data during the initial sync even though SyncEvolution didn't
ask for that.

That is always better than running the config test tool. Another
prominent paragraph should be that the tool really is the last resort
and brute-force method of finding a working config.

the Drupal installation on syncevolution.org?

Something that is also missing there is a summary of the Markup syntax.
The "tips" page is linked to under "Input Format" with the words
"You
can use *Markdown syntax* to format..." (emphasis mine) but then it
doesn't mentioned that syntax at all.
I could write something myself, but perhaps there is already something
that can be pasted into the "tips" page? I also don't know where to find
that page in Drupal.

There are ways to get this into the online help, just haven't had the time yet!! :)
There are a number of other improvements to the OTC sites like this one that I'd like
to add, but we'll we how to get this on the agenda.
