I looked a bit more carefully:
What it looks like is the other calendar I imported from my N900 via bluetooth gets synced
to syncevolution but the built in Personal calendar doesn't sync.
The data in OldPhone ended up in my directory, and then at some point when I synced it
back it also ended up in the PC-SYNC calendar. An event in Personal doesn't seem to
leave the phone.
I moved an event from personal to PC-SYNC and it was then copied to the syncevolution
I don't really use the birthday feature so I don't know how it was treated.
And I did see an oddness with the sync-ui software. I can't save changes to the phone
configuration without setting a username in the default/peers/device/config.ini file
