Yes, I think there is such a need (there might be KDE GUI soonish),

... yes, this is not quite correct. As long as KDE doesn't have a
"native" GUI, they'll use sync-ui.
Taking all of this into account I still think that "SyncEvolution (GTK)"
is the least evil of the alternatives.
I agree with the basic idea -- the MeeGo texts aren't always very useful
for general desktop and Syncevolution should be mentioned.
I'm not sure I like adding " (GTK)" to the name: The proper solution
would probably be naming the UIs with proper names and mentioning
Syncevolution in the description/comment. Reasoning:
* Terms like GTK are IMO out of place in the menu of a generic
desktop: too much technical detail that is not useful for 99.9% of
people who will only have one UI in the menu anyway
* If there are several UIs they will almost certainly have feature
disparity and may have slightly different design goals (considering
the wide range of possibilities syncevolution gives)... Calling them
with the same name might give the wrong idea.
That said I don't have any smart ideas for a good name so your "least
evil" point stands: "SyncEvolution (GTK)" is certainly acceptable and
shouldn't be much work for translators.

I like "Office;PDA". Not sure about "GTK". I don't find it in
http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html and which
toolkit it uses shouldn't be relevant for the menu.
Pietro mentioned it's there in the list, but stuff outside the Main
categories is mostly not used anywhere (there are some exceptions like
*Game)... Can't hurt to add both "PDA" and "GTK" I guess.
"Office"
definitely sounds like the best choice for main category nowadays.
