Hi all,
We are pleased to announce another update of Intel GVT-g for KVM.
Intel GVT-g is a full GPU virtualization solution with mediated pass-through, starting from 4th generation Intel Core(TM) processors with Intel Graphics processors. A virtual GPU instance is maintained for each VM, with part of performance critical resources directly assigned. The capability of running native graphics driver inside a VM, without hypervisor intervention in performance critical paths, achieves a good balance among performance, feature, and sharing capability. KVM is supported by Intel GVT-g(a.k.a. KVMGT).
Repositories
Kernel: https://github.com/01org/igvtg-kernel (2015q3-3.18.0 branch)
Qemu: https://github.com/01org/igvtg-qemu (kvmgt_public2015q3 branch)
This update consists of:
- KVMGT is now merged with XenGT in unified repositories(kernel and qemu), but currently
different branches for qemu. KVMGT and XenGT share same iGVT-g core logic.
- PPGTT supported, hence the Windows guest support
- KVMGT now supports both 4th generation (Haswell) and 5th generation (Broadwell) Intel Core(TM) processors
- 2D/3D/Media decoding have been validated on Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows7/Windows 8.1
Next update will be around early Jan, 2016.
Known issues:
- At least 2GB memory is suggested for VM to run most 3D workloads.
- 3Dmark06 running in Windows VM may have some stability issue.
- Using VLC to play .ogg file may cause mosaic or slow response.

Xen is currently supported on Intel Processor Graphics (a.k.a. XenGT); and the core logic can be easily ported to other hypervisors.

- fix a BUG in XenGT I/O emulation logic
- improve 3d workload stability
Next update will be around early Jan, 2016.
Known issues:
- At least 2GB memory is suggested for VM to run most 3D workloads.
- Keymap might be incorrect in guest. Config file may need to explicitly specify "keymap='en-us'". Although it looks like the default value, earlier we saw the problem of wrong keymap code if it is not explicitly set.
- When using three monitors, doing hotplug between Guest pause/unpause may not be able to lightup all monitors automatically. Some specific monitor issues.
- Cannot move mouse pointer smoothly in guest by default launched by VNC mode. Configuration file need to explicitly specify "usb=1" to enable a USB bus, and "usbdevice='tablet'" to add pointer device using absolute coordinates.
- Resume dom0 from S3 may cause some error message.
- i915 unload/reload cannot works well with less than 3 vcpu when upowerd service was running
- Unigen Tropics running in multiple guests will cause dom0 and guests tdr.

Hi Guys,
I noticed when using va-api to accelerate h264 encoding on intel
platform with i7-4790K (HD Graphics 4600), for 1080P video frames, per
frame average encoding time is 3 times of the time tested under
4.2.0-27-generic #32~14.04.1-Ubuntu kernel.
The latest libva and intel vaapi driver (1.7.0) are used in both tests.
Is this a known side effect caused by the igvt-g feature? If yes, may
I know when this is expected to be fixed?

VM crash if run some benchmark

Hello iGVT-g team,
I'm trying KVMGT until now, the effect is still amazing to me.
Only the question is, if I run some benchmarks, like Passmark or sth.
VM always crash (with BSOD 0x3b) when benchmark application collecting
System information (i.e Passmark 8.0).
And it won't work even I set "option kvm ignore_msrs=1" in
/etc/modprobe.d/kvm.conf
Does anyone had same issue on it?

I had another question again, as title that I survey these days that Intel
also released VCA card.

Unable to install Graphics Driver on Windows7 as HVM on XenGT-4.3.1

Hi,
I am unable to install Graphics Driver (versions : win64_15.28.24, win64_15.36.31.4414, win64_15.40.25.4464) on Windows_7 64 bit.
System specifications are as follows:
Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.59 GHz
Installed memory(RAM) : 2.99 GB(allocated to Windows HVM out of 8 GB)
Getting below errors while installing respective driver versions:
win64_15.28.24 : This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.
win64_15.40.25.4464 : This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.
win64_15.36.31.4414 : This version get installed but after restart we are unable to start windows on normal mode.
Please help me in resolving the above issue.

Direct3D/OpenGL not working in a Windows VM using KVMGT

When I attempt to start a Direct3D or OpenGL program within a Windows 7 VM, the program always hangs. Windows itself appears to run ok with the exception of some screen corruption that was previously reported.
This is running on a laptop with an i5-5300U CPU (HD 5500 graphics) with the latest release (2016Q1). No updates have been made to the images installed from the live ISO.

Screen corruption in Windows/Linux VM using KVMGT

I've installed the latest release (2016Q1) and I'm using the Linux VM that was distributed with the Live ISO. In addition I've created a Windows 7 Enterprise VM and installed the 4352 drivers (as referenced in the docs).
This is running on a laptop with an i5-5300U CPU (HD 5500 graphics).
I see corruption on the bottom of the VM screen where the Windows taskbar would normally reside. The corruption appears to be offscreen memory as it changes based on the screen contents. In addition, there is also an occasional white rectangle that appears near the top left of the VM screen. This corruption occurs on either VM.
The installation is completely based on the install from the live ISO. No updates have been applied.
Any ideas?

XenGT support for / integration with Qubes OS?

Basically, just writing to ask whether there is interest in adding
XenGT support to Qubes OS, which, being a heavily isolation-focused
project would greatly benefit from GPU virtualization.
The Qubes project itself doesn't have the resources to test and/or
integrate XenGT in their Xen setup (
