Clients are evicted automatically if they don't contact the server within a few
minutes. The exception is if the server is not getting any traffic at all, then it might
be disconnected from the network itself and doesn't evict the clients until some
clients have tried to connect.

Hi all,

Starting the OSTs on that server of course makes them trying to recover all those
clients. In the log
there are then some sparse 'I think it's dead' lines, but can I get rid of
them all at once?
In some rather old manual I found something like

The OSS (Lustre 1.8.9) seems to understand this command ("evicting ... at
administrative request").
I also did echo something to "obdfilter/NAME/exports/clear".
But neither this nor umount/mount would clear these clients from the system.
Any other trick?

Thomas
