EliRegards,* not quite any, you probably need at least kernel 2.6.X but that is still almost any kernel released in the past few years.Normally I don't contradict, but he's asking about the client as far as I understand.
The client can be built from source for any kernel* up to 4.2 (lustre 2.8) and Lustre 2.9 I believe was patched to work with newer kernels but we haven't tested yet.

I try the SRPM of lustre 2.9.0 with CentOS 7.3.1611. It works.
